Elisabeth learns to speak Hungarian, and the Bavarian princess turns into a true Queen of Hungary who truly loved her Hungarian subjects and aids them in many ways. She fights with everything at her disposal to achieve the Austrian-Hungarian Compromise. She is probably at her most beautiful at her coronation as Queen of Hungary in Buda - perhaps also the most beautiful ceremony of her life. Purely out of respect for Erzsébet, the organisers break with tradition and she is crowned not on the following day but together with her husband, Franz Joseph. Thus the Queen, who abhors official functions and ceremonies, has to endure only one day of pomp and circumstance.
