The central panel shows St. Catherine’s monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai. The panel on the right presents the expulsion of Adam and Eve from paradise, that on the left, the Annunciation. This is El Greco’s earliest known treatment of the Annunciation, a subject to which he was to return throughout his life.
