Curator's Tour: The European Quran

5. November, 6.30 p.m., Weltmuseum Wien
Meeting point: columned hall of the Weltmuseum Wien

What role does the Holy Scripture of Islam, the Quran, play in European intellectual history? How has it been read and understood in Europe since the first translations in the Middle Ages? These questions will be addressed in a special exhibition at the Weltmuseum Wien starting in Fall 2024. The exhibition will illustrate the diverse ways in which the Quran has been experienced, read, and interpreted in Europe.

Curator's Tour: A Glance at Pants

Pants from the collections of the Weltmuseum Wien meet new creations by young designers from Viennese fashion schools. Together we will explore and stage the exciting significance of clothing for the lower half of the body and question stereotypical expectations of male and female clothing traditions. We will also shed light on the stories told by children's pants from different parts of the world.

Backstage: The Emperor's Air Fountain

12. November, 6 p.m., Weltmuseum Wien
Meeting point: Entrance area of the Weltmuseum Wien

Immerse yourself in a technical and architectural masterpiece of Habsburg architecture. From Meissner's air heating system to the air fountain with its riser shafts, you can experience historical building technology adapted in a modern way. Learn more about the origins of the Imperial Forum and the building history of the Neue Burg and the Corps de Logis and take away many facts and figures about the technical operation of the building. As the crowning glory, a secret passageway connecting two museums awaits you.

Artist Talk: Anna Heindl. The Marriage - a special presentation in the Kunstkammer

18. December, 6:30 p.m., Kunstkammer Vienna
Meeting point: Foyer of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna

The jewellery artist Anna Heindl was inspired by the painting The Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine by the Master of Heiligenkreuz for her exhibition The Marriage in the Kunstkammer of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Heindl was particularly fascinated by the long fingers of the figures and the piece of jewellery in Catherine's hand, which symbolises the wheel of her torture. She interpreted the wheel as a symbol of standing up for convictions and incorporated this idea into a necklace designed especially for the exhibition.

Experience an exclusive guided tour with Dr Monica Kurzel-Runtscheiner through the special presentation Victoria! A court carriage and its eventful history. For the first time in over 100 years, you can admire the vehicle that Emperor Franz Joseph particularly enjoyed using in the Imperial Carriage Museum in the last years of his life: Millions of people knew the image of the old monarch when he was travelling in his ‘Leib-Victoria’ in fine weather.
