around 1664/65, Artist: Juan Bautista Martinez del Mazo
Mazo was the colleague and son-in-law of Velázquez and his successor as Spanish court painter. The picture offers a glimpse of his studio and shows four children from his marriage to Francisca Velázquez on the left in the foreground; his second wife and her children are to the right. The composition recalls the famous royal family portrait by Velázquez, “Las Meninas” (Museo del Prado, Madrid).
