Vlad III. Tzepesch, der Pfähler, Woywode der Walachei 1456-1462 und 1476 (gestorben 1477)

Vlad III ŢEPEŞ (1430–1477), the model of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (1897) was the son of Duke Vlad Dracul of Walachia. He fought many battles against the Turks, whose supremacy he had to accept in 1460. His epithet ŢEPEŞ, »the impaler«, goes back to his cruel way to kill his enemies. Another copy of this portrait can be found in the collection of miniature paintings of Archduke Ferdinand II.
