1529, Artist: Lukas Furtenagel
Neither subject looks in the convex mirror but rather directly at the viewer, to whom the warning of impending death equally applies, and which is expressed in the inscription on the mirror, “Know Thyself”. The inscription in the upper right of the picture: “That’s what we really looked like, but in the mirror nothing but that” suggests that both of them face the prospect of death calmly.
