Contraguitar
In addition to six strings running over the usual fretted fingerboard, this contraguitar has seven bass strings led over a fingerboard without frets. These bass strings are tuned in diatonic steps. The contraguitar was mainly played in Viennese light music of the 19th century, where it functioned as a bass- and chords-instrument. For strengthening the statics of the instrument a metal rod is located in the middle of the corpus. (bd)
