Infanta Margarita in a white Dress

about 1656, Artist: Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez

Infanta Margarita in a white Dress

The portrait shows the five-year old Infanta in a severe pose, as if an adult. The imperial emissary also praises her good behaviour in the letter he sent with the portrait to Vienna. At the same time Velázquez painted the manyfigured portrait “Las Meninas” (Madrid, Prado), in which the small Infanta, standing in the midst of her royal court, reveals more of her individuality.
