Infante Balthasar Charles (1629–1646)
Baltasar Carlos war der Sohn König Philipps IV. und seiner ersten Gemahlin, Isabella von Frankreich. Das Bildnis entstand zu einer Zeit, als man die Ehe des vielversprechenden spanischen Thronerben mit seiner Cousine Maria Anna von Österreich plante. Sein früher Tod infolge eines plötzlichen Fiebers veranlasste seinen Vater, den verwitweten König, Maria Anna selbst zu heiraten, um die königliche Nachfolge in Spanien zu sichern.
