Ephesische Artemis, Karneol
The cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus was artistically engraved into the carnelian, a semi-precious stone. The polos (the high headdress) and the woollen bandages hanging from Artemis' wrists are recognisable. A deer accompanies her on either side. The star and moon underline the cosmic character of the cult. The stone is set in a modern gold mounting.
