Summer Academy Summer holidays at the museum

(in German language)

Take a trip to three different museums with imagination, a love of exploration and fun! Spend a week's holiday with us at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Weltmuseum Wien and Theatermuseum and immerse yourself in their collections, full of fascinating objects and exciting stories.

Programme in three museums

Art, theatre and history for creative explorers

By experiencing, exploring, inventing, designing and crafting together, we also want to see and hear your contribution. Are you curious? Then join us!

We can hardly wait to welcome you to our summer academy!

Over the centuries, the collections of various art connoisseurs and emperors have become a gigantic super-collection at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. But how to organise it all? By size, colour or origin perhaps? When is a collection actually complete? And who is even allowed to set these rules?

We will visit the Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities, the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection, the Kunstkammer and the Picture Gallery and, among other things, you will design a leporello in which you can collect your experiences at the end of each day and record them for later.

Although there is nothing from Europe in the Weltmuseum Wien, there are objects from every other continent in the world. Objects have always been on the move. People take them with them when they move to a new place or when they come back from travelling. Inventions, ideas, religions, languages and views also travel with the objects. What stories do the well-travelled objects bring with them? Where and how did they come to Vienna? Who were the collectors? How are the objects exhibited in Vienna? These questions will occupy us.

What of your own things would you keep for people 100 or 200 years from now so that they could learn something about us? We will organise a small exhibition and find your own order for the things.

Your dreams will come true on the theatrical tour through the Showbiz Made in Vienna exhibition at the Theatermuseum! You will see imperial costumes and even sights such as St Stephen's Cathedral in costume. Magnificent stage sets, imaginative drawings, exciting photos, excerpts from Sissi films and much more show you the colourful world of entertainment. You can dance, sing, play theatre, try out tricks and attend an audience with the empress.

Collect fantastic impressions, get to know famous collectors for the theatre museum and tell us about your passion for collecting.

The KHM-Museumsverband has no duty of supervision if and as long as a child is accompanied by a guardian or other person authorised to collect the child (i.e. an authorised person).

In the event that the child's participation cannot or may not take place for reasons of force majeure (in particular epidemics or pandemics), the KHM Museum Association accepts no liability for any resulting disadvantages.

Guardians are liable for any damage caused by their child to the facilities, buildings or third parties. The KHM-Museumsverband accepts no liability for damage caused by negligence.

We recommend hard-wearing clothing that can also get dirty, as we also use colours that may not be washable. The KHM-Museumsverband does not cover the cost of cleaning soiled clothing and is not liable for clothing damaged by soiling.

The legal guardian(s) agree(s) that photos and videos of their children may be taken by the KHM-Museumsverband as part of the Summer Academy.
