All about your visit

Leave your outerwear, umbrellas, bags and other items at the cloakroom free of charge. There are also lockers available for storage.

We are particularly happy to welcome young visitors and have special offers for children and those who have remained young at heart. Please keep an eye on the children you are accompanying during your entire visit.

Our art educational offers for children

Visitors with buggies and wheelchair users are requested to contact the visitor service, who will be happy to assist you.

If there are large numbers of visitors, we may restrict the number of buggies that can be taken into the exhibition rooms.

Well-maintained toilets are available on levels 0, 0.5 and 1 for your convenience during your visit. You can find the exact location on the floor plan.

Use our café and restaurant for a break during your visit. The café and restaurant is open throughout the museum opening hours.

Seating is available in the exhibition rooms, take a seat while viewing and experiencing the works of art.

We ask for your understanding that for safety reasons animals (except assistance animals) are not permitted.

WiFi is available free of charge in our exhibition rooms.

Photography and filming is only permitted for private use and non-commercial purposes. It is not permitted to use a flash or a tripod. Please take note of signs indicating photography bans for particular works of art.

Media representatives and journalists reporting about a KHM Museumsverband site, a current exhibition or event will receive free entry and press material from us. Please register your visit in writing at info.pr@khm.atat least two workdays in advance, including in your email the name of your medium, your desired date of visit and a scanned image of your valid ID.

Visiting the Museum with a group

The maximum group size is limited to 25 people in all our collections and exhibitions. Groups of 10 people or more must be registered.

From February 2025, the Kunsthistorisches Museum will be dedicating an exhibition to the now largely forgotten artist Daniel Neuberger (1621-1680) and his impressive art of deception. This will be the first time ever he is honoured with a retrospective exhibition.

Admission tickets are valid indefinitely from the date of purchase. Visitors are free to decide when they wish to visit the museum. Similarly, so-called combi-tickets are valid at the entrance until their date of expiry, and can be used on different days. However, please be sure to make a note of the museum’s opening hours.

The 7 Museums Pass (Annual Ticket) is a ticket for unlimited museum visits over a 365-day period from the date of purchase. It entitles holders to visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Neue Hofburg – Weltmuseum Wien, Imperial Armoury, Collection of Historic Musical Instruments, Imperial Treasury Vienna, Imperial Carriage Museum, the Theatermuseum and Ambras Castle Innsbruck. Furthermore, holders of the 7 Museums Pass (Annual Ticket) enjoy a 50 per cent reduction on audio guides and a ten per cent reduction in the shop (with the exception of price-linked books and reduced items).

The 7 Museums Pass (Annual Ticket) is available online as a digital 7 Museums Pass (Annual Ticket), which holders may have to hand on their smartphone, and at all times. The analogue version is available for purchase at the ticket office.

The duration of museum visits varies from house to house and according to your interests, from half an hour to an entire day. 

Luggage, backpacks and umbrellas may be deposited in the cloakroom or stowed in lockers throughout your visit to the museum. 

Children and young people under the age of nineteen (namely, guests who have yet to celebrate their nineteenth birthday) are admitted free of charge to the Federal Museums. When booking tickets online, visitors are not required to book a ticket for children and young people under the age of nineteen. These will be registered at the entrance when showing a valid student ID.

The shops in the Kunsthistorisches Museum offer you an extensive range of goods which is constantly extended by new products related to the collections and exhibitions. Through your purchase you directly support the museums and their work!

The well-lit and brightly designed Museum Shop covering over 250 m2 on the ground floor of the KHM invites you to linger, browse and buy. The range of products extends from art postcards to noble jewellery based on the collections presented in the KHM. Here you can find original and classic items on art and culture from antiquity to the Baroque.
